      "Poet of the Peak" Suffocated

      On Wednesday evening on outbreak of fire occurred in the Almshouses in King-street, Bakewell. Smoke was observed issuing from the windows, and an entrance being effected an old man, a cripple from birth, was found to have been suffocated. His name is Joseph Waterfall, and he was well-known as the "Poet of the Peak." How the fire originated it is impossible to say. The event caused great excitement in the town. The fire was extinguished by the local brigade.
